This is one of two gowns I finished recently. It is entirely hand sewn, of cream wool with fine white stripes. Lined in linen, and shown with fine linen neck and sleeve ruffles. Also shown is my new black silk bonnet and red checked linen apron. I wore this outfit to do a school show with my Revolutionary War unit, the 33rd Regiment of Foot. I had an absolute blast with the kids, and it was good to warm up my interpreting skills for the summer!
I can't wait to get better pictures of this in Williamsburg... :)
Stay tuned for gown #2 coming tomorrow!
Stunning! But then, your work is always stunning!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful and perfectly fitted! The color looks lovely on you, too - what a pretty fabric choice! :-)
ReplyDeleteNOM NOM NOM nom NOM nom nom NOM NOM NOM!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteNOM!!!!
haha, I love Lauren's "nom nom" commentary :)
ReplyDeleteI can't believe how well this gown is fitted and tailored to the underpinnings... you really have the art of the bumroll down perfectly. That may sound trivial to you, but to me it really is a mystery that I have yet to figure out! I haven't managed to make a bumroll yet that has both the right back and side dimensions.
Also I love that you hand-sewed this! I always find it so much more satisfying to sew things the 18th-century way, although I don't always have the time to do it.
So beautiful! I love the simplicity of the dress, yet it is so very appealing!
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to dress No.2!

Your gown is beautiful! Does the lining help it lay so well? Can't wait to see gown #2.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely beautiful! Good work!
ReplyDeleteLovely job!
ReplyDeleteLovely dress! It fits you perfectly.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to steal your wonderful bonnet! (Do you have any hints on the construction/the pattern?) And by the way, you have a stunning waist.
