Such a Tease...

Yesterday was another 18th c cricket game, and it was just cool enough to wear my new riding habit again. Still waiting on the "official" photo shoot pictures (it's been a very busy couple of months!) but here's a couple less-than-great Instagram shots to peak your interest...

Thank you, readers!!

Since Blogger won't let me reply to each individual comment, I'd like to say thank you to everyone who left me such kind comments on my last post. It really means a lot to me to hear your experiences, your advice, and your well wishes.

Things are progressing pretty well with the 1820s project. Next will be an item for my Costume College class, and finishing my 17th c bodies and hopefully a smock. Definitely not what I had originally planned to have done by the end of the summer, but a little sewing is better than no sewing.

Cheers!

Here's some lace I got recently for a future project down the road. Too pretty to let pass by!

Fear and Other Stupid Things

A few months ago, my wrist started hurting. I got sent to a doctor on worker's comp, but it was really inconclusive... I have a brace, and I try to always wear it when I'm sewing. But it still hurts, and I'm slightly terrified. I'm only 23, and I'd like to be sewing when I'm an old woman. Frankly, I can't imagine doing anything else. Historical clothing is my passion. I've done a lot of things in life, but this is the one thing that stuck and really consumed me. Of course, realistically, I can give you a list of other hobbies I can do... But my blood runs cold when I think about not being able to sew. (I should add that I literally sew for a living right now. So I'd have to quit my job--which I love-- and find something else...)

I'm not really sure what this means exactly for me. Probably less sewing... less blogging... So yeah, that's where I am right now... :-/

1820s Dress and 18th Century Cap!

I've been asked to interpret an 1820s milliner, which meant I needed a dress to wear and goods to interpret with! I'm probably about halfway done with my dress. Needs sleeves, skirt trim, hem, and collar. Then on to the cap, bonnet, and turban for my millinery display. I'll also have a shawl, parasol, fur tippet, muff, veil, kerchiefs, and fabric and lace to try to cover as many accessories as I can. I'd like to print out some fashion plates, too.

And here's a cap I made a few months ago! All of the nice detail pictures of my tiny rolled hems and whipped gathers are on my camera, which is STILL missing. Same fabric as my last cap, but I am much happier with the shape this time around. :)
